An inspiring workshop session
Today, the #studentsatplay further developed their bridge concept, with a particular focus on the design of the structure itself.
Our #expertsatplay delivered several inspirational lectures.
The morning began with a duo lecture by Tom De Soete and Ronan Pieters, who emphasized the importance of close collaboration between architect and engineer. The students were also introduced to the fascinating world of parametric design—a methodology SBE uses for meaningful form-finding and structural optimization. With these fresh insights, the morning continued as a hands-on workshop.
Bart Bommelyn, another #expertatplay, then taught the students all about materialization. He immersed them in the many possibilities of material use in bridge design, highlighting the pros and cons.
Afterward, it was back to designing! Finally, each team presented the current state of their concept.
After all the hard work, it was time to relax: the day ended with a refreshing beer in hand.
Onwards to the final workshop day!
